What is the overtime ban all about and whom it applies?
Post and Logistics Union PAU imposes an overtime ban on jobs of Posti and Flexo. The reason for overtime ban is political and is aimed at taking objection to the government’s proposal to the deterioration of the protection against dismissal.
- The overtime ban starts at 24.9.2018 00.00 and ends at 7.10.2018 24.00.
- The ban applies to all work covered by the Communications and Logistics and Information Logistics collective agreements. The scope of the overtime ban does not cover work related to public health and safety.
- The question is whether you accept the loss of your own or anyone else's redundancy protection. The government of the country wants to weaken the protection of dismissal in companies under 20, which places workers in an unequal position solely on the basis of the size of the employer.
- If the government's goal is to go through, it is likely to be the first step to dismantling protection even in larger companies. There is no guarantee that deterioration in redundancy protection would stop to firms of under 20 people.
- The ban of overtime is a legitimate organizational measure that defends every employee's protection against dismissal.
- The overtime ban is applied to the government, not Posti (or Flexo).
- Refusal to work overtime is a protest against the government's policy of deterioration of working life. With the overtime ban, we want to stop the weakening of employee's position and working conditions
- Government list of sin is long and heavy: extending work hours (competitiveness) without wage increase, probation extension, facilitating fixed-term employment contracts, cuts of public sector holidays, unemployment benefit, etc. It's enough!.
- The ban applies to all employees working in the fields covered by the agreement whether they are members of PAU or not. Apart from the employer’s interpretation.
- It is the duty of members to participate in the ban. During an overtime ban, an overtime worker accepts the government's weaknesses in the dismissal protection.
- An employee does not have to report to the supervisor separately for refusing overtime work.
- The employer must not put pressure on employees in overtime. Intimidating may result in the employer being fined or imprisoned for up to 6 months (Chapter 47, Sections 3 and 4 of the Criminal Code).
