about workers rights and
working conditions
Last summer Posti transferred its newspaper delivery to Posti Palvelut Oy, which is a member of the employer union Finnmedia (Medialiitto). Because of this transfer those working in newspaper delivery have since November been under the collective labor agreement negotiated by The Industrial Union (Teollisuusliitto, former TEAM). Following the change in the CLA those working in newspaper delivery are recommended to change their union membership over to The Industrial Union. Union representation and negotiating are now handled by The Industrial Union. Changing your membership can be done easily at www.teollisuusliitto.fi, through which PAU will also be notified.
Those who do not wish to change their membership over to The Industrial Union can keep their membership in PAU. Although, after February this will mean that those who choose to stay in PAU must pay their membership fee for themselves. The easiest way to do this is to visit the union’s website ww.pau.fi and filling in the power of attorney. In the power of attorney there is a space membership* under which you will find the option: Change of employer. After choosing this and sending in the power of attorney the member register will send you your monthly payment information. This information contains everything you need to be able to pay your membership fee yourself. Also those who have retired can keep their membership in PAU.
Posti’s decision to end the automatic membership fee collection for PAU members is a conscious decision by which Posti is trying to manipulate where and if the employees choose to organize themselves. Because there is a lot of non-Finnish speakers amongst those working in newspaper delivery this change will probably cause a lot of confusion and can lead to unfortunate consequences regarding for example unemployment benefits. In this sense Posti’s decision can be deeply criticized.
