The flexible time off on the basis of the shortening of annual working hours 2020 must be granted and taken as time off during 2021. The time of taking the time off must be agreed upon by 30 March.
The flexible time off of the year 2020 can be seen on the payslips February 15th 2021 and for those with monthly pay on February 26th 2020. The shortening of annual working hours concerns the postal workers (Posti Oy) and the sorters of package deliveries (Posti Palvelut Oy PEC).
The annual working hours of a full-time or part-time employee working within the scope of weekly working hours of 38 hours and 15 minutes and whose annual holiday is accrued otherwise than in line with section 37 of the collective labour agreement are shortened by transferring to the employee’s balance of flexible time off for each calendar year 2.25% of the regular working hours; for part-time workers, the same applies for the hours of additional work also. The calculation of annual working hours does not include absences such as annual holidays, sick-leaves and taken flexible time off. The extension of annual working time in accordance with the competitiveness pact does not accumulate the shortening of annual working hours. In case it is unclear for you how to calculate the accumulation, the chief shop steward can help you. If, because of an agreement or other arrangement, the employee’s annual holiday is longer than 36 days, the number of hours transferred to the balance of flexible time off is decreased by the number of hours by which the annual holiday exceeds 36 days.
Granting of flexible time off
The flexible time off on the basis of the shortening of annual working hours 2020 must be granted and taken as time off during the calendar year following the year of accrual (2021). The time of taking the time off must be agreed upon by 30 March. In other cases, the employer will set the time of the time off. In such a case, the time off shall be allocated in connection with the employee’s annual holiday, if this is possible. If a detailed programme is agreed upon for the time of utilising the time off, the time off may also be granted for a time other than the calendar year following the year of accrual. If the shortening cannot be realised as time off, the employee will be compensated for it with the simple hourly salary as remuneration.
When does the shortening of annual working hours start?
The accumulation of shortening will commence at the beginning of the month following the calendar month during which the employee’s employment relationship with the employer has come to continue, in one or several periods, for at least two of the last three years. You can get more information about the shortening of annual working hours from your chief shop steward.
