PAU negotiated better terms than provided by law

Finnish Post and Logistics Union PAU accepted the negotiation result on the new collective labour agreements in the postal sector. Salaries will increase by 2.9% next year and by 2.4% in 2027. The collective agreements in the postal sector still require a grave reason for dismissing an employee, and a justified reason must be provided for in the case of a fixed-term employment contract.

The Executive Board of the Finnish Post and Logistics Union PAU accepted the negotiation results on the new collective labour agreements for the Communications and logistics sector, for the parcel sector Posti Palvelut Oy and for the Information logistics sector. Pay rises follow the general line and will increase by 2.9% next year and by 2.4% in 2027.

The new collective labour agreement for the Communications and logistics sector (VVL-TES) is in effect 1 November 2025-31 October 2028. The new collective labour agreements for the parcel sector Posti Palvelut Oy and for the Information logistics sector are in effect 1 February 2026-31 January 2029. VVL-TES may be terminated by either party to end on 31 October 2026 and collective agreements for both the parcel sector Posti Palvelut Oy and the Information logistics sector may be terminated by either party to end on 31 January 2027.

Grave reason still required to terminate employment

In October, the Finnish government issued a proposal to make it easier to dismiss an employee. According to the proposal, employers would be able to terminate an employment contract where a proper reason exists. However, the collective labour agreements negotiated by PAU continue to require a grave reason for termination. Under the collective agreement, an employee may not be dismissed without a proper and grave reason owing to the employee.

Justified reason required to terminate employment in a fixed-term contract

The Finnish government is also preparing to weaken fixed-term employment contracts and is pushing for a change in the law that would allow fixed-term employment contracts to be concluded for a maximum of one year without a justified reason. In the collective agreements negotiated by PAU, a justified reason is still required for a fixed-term employment contract.

Better collective labour agreement terms than provided by law

The Executive Board of the Finnish Post and Logistics Union PAU reminds PAU members that it is not just pay that is negotiated in collective bargaining negotiations. The new collective labour agreements also include numerous benefits that are better than those provided by law.  For example, evening and night pay, flexible time off, bank holiday compensation, sick leave salary, paid leave to care for an ill child and paid family leave are still part of the collective agreement and employee rights. This is achieved when the union has sufficient members and bargaining power.
