PAU is taking new labour activities

08.10.2018

PAU is during October taking new labour activities against the government’s deterioration of the protection against dismissal.

PAU’s Board of Executives today in its meeting was working with the political activities against the government’s deterioration of the protection against dismissal. The Board stated that PAU will participate in a joint front of unions to oppose the proposal to place workers in an unequal position on the basis of the size of the employer. If the government won’t withdraw its proposal to deteriorate the protection of dismissal, PAU will launch new industrial actions.

Everyone still has the right to refuse to take overtime work

The overtime ban concerning jobs of Posti and Flexo ended at Sunday 7.10.2018 24.00. Despite this fact working overtime is according to legislation of working hours still voluntary.

In some work places there is a supervisor’s working manual in effect, that during the preliminary morning work one must inform whether the working hours of the rota are not sufficient for the day. If such an instruction is given, a mail carrier may comply with it according to his/her best knowledge, i.e. inform during the preliminary work: “Working hours given in the rota probably won’t be enough today” after which the supervisor asks the mail carrier to work overtime, if the delivery route is supposed to be finished with overtime work. If the carrier only during the delivery finds out that working time is insufficient (e.g. weather conditions make delivery difficult), he/she has no duty to finish the route by doing overtime, although he/she had estimated in the morning that the working time is sufficient.

Keep focused on the next steps

PAU will inform on the development of the issue concerning the deterioration of the protection of dismissal on its web pages, in the social media and with member bulletins. Please update your email address, phone number and professional title to your membership details in www.pau.fi. By keeping your membership details up-to-date it is easier to get information and up-to-date news from your union.
