The strike allowance application can be found here in word and pdf format.
To apply for the strike allowance, fill in the strike allowance application, which will be handed to the contact person designated by the local chapter (the local chapters will inform on whether the strike allowance application can be submitted by email or paper). An application for a strike allowance should not be sent directly to the union office.
Local chapters will inform their members how and where to hand in the strike allowance application. Contact details for the local chapters can be found below. If necessary, you can check from the local chapters contact person where the strike application should be submitted to. The sooner the local chapters receive the applications, the quicker we will be able to pay the allowances to members on strike.
The members on strike should fill in all the requested information on the strike allowance application themselves and confirm it with their signature before submitting the application to their local chapter. The signature can be verified by sending the strike allowance application from one’s own email address (eg PDF / WORD). Local chapters number can be found in the union’s membership card. The time spent on strike must be verified by for example a copy/photo of one’s pay slip or from the OmaPosti application, which shows the days spent on strike. Verification can also be done in another reliable manner, approved by the local chapter. Local chapters verify the time spent on strike. It is good to note that if you go back to work during the strike, you will act against a union-imposed collective action decision that will result in the loss of the strike allowance for the duration of the whole strike.
Temporary agency workers are entitled to a strike allowance when their contract of employment is valid, and they have not accepted the job offered during the strike or if they have accepted the job offered but been on strike. The payment of the strike allowance to a temporary worker depends on whether they have been offered work prior to the strike.
A temporary employee will also receive a strike allowance if they have been employed by Posti prior to the start of the strike and proves that the cause of the break in employment is due to the labor dispute.
Local chapters should ensure membership, as well as the absence from work under strike.
Members of other unions who have an employment relationship with Posti: Paperiliitto, Rakennusliitto (the Finnish Construction Trade Union), Sähköliitto (the Finnish Electrical Workers´ Union), Suomen elintarvikeliitto SEL (Finnish Food Workers' Union SEL), JHL (The Trade Union For The Public And Welfare Sectors), PAM (Service Union United), Teollisuusliitto (Industrial Union) and Transport Workers’ Union AKT (members of union not mentioned should contact their own trade union) should submit the strike application to PAU's local chapter. Members of other unions must verify their union membership.
(NOTE: For AKT members, strike allowance application for week 46 (11 November - 17 November) will be returned to PAU’s local chapter and from week 47 onwards to AKT’s local chapter.)
Members of federation strike organizations apply for a strike grant from their own federation.
PAU’s strike allowance is € 67 per strike day
• a full-time employee is paid the strike allowance for as many days as the wage is withheld due to the strike (at most 7 days per week, as wages are withheld from each calendar day)
• a part-time employee is paid the strike allowance based on the number of working days (at most 5 days a week). Part-time employees working on average of more than 7 hours 39 minutes per day, the strike allowance can be paid for more days than there would have been shifts. Local chapters will consider how to proceed if so.
Calculation of 67 € strike grant:
The strike allowance is tax-free up to 16 €. Tax withholding of 30 % will be made on allowances higher than 16 € in accordance with 88 § of the Income Tax Act. Thus, the amount subject to tax is 51 € in this case. The net amount of the strike allowance is 51,70 € per day. The net amount of the strike allowance is 51.70 € per day.
