PAU has taken out union insurance and organisation insurance with If Insurance Company for its members. The insurance is included in the membership fee.
The insured are employed and unemployed union members who live permanently in Finland for more than six months per calendar year, whose permanent place of residence is in Finland and who are covered by the Finnish Health Insurance Act (1224/2004). The insurance does not cover pensioners or other members who do not pay the membership fee. When a member retires, the insurance cover ends at the end of the year of retirement.
Persons on part-time retirement are insured as are persons receiving rehabilitation cash benefit or a temporary disability pension.
Insurance cover is tied to union membership. If a member resigns or is expelled from the union, insurance cover ends with immediate effect.
Accident insurance covers accidents that occur during free time where these are not compensated on the basis of some other law.
Compensation for the treatment of an injury is subject to a maximum of €3,524/incident. There is no co-payment.
Compensation for permanent harm is subject to a maximum of €36,670. Compensation is payable based on the degree of medical harm.
The insurance does not include per diem allowance or compensation for accidental death. More detailed information on the details of the insurance can be found in the insurance terms and conditions. Unlike the provisions in the general terms and conditions, the beneficiaries of accident insurance taken out by the organisation are always relatives.
Travel insurance is valid for a maximum of 45 days from the start of each free-time journey in Finland or abroad.
Children under the age of 20 travelling with their insured parents and grandparents on the same trip are covered by the insurance, but only on the basis of one insurance policy at a time.
Children have the same insurance coverage as members. The compensation is €2,000 for death caused by an accident and €10,000 for total permanent harm caused by an accident. The cover includes a sports exclusion in accordance with the insurance terms and conditions. The exclusion cannot be removed.
Travel insurance also covers the treatment costs travel illness for a maximum of 90 days from seeking medical attention and injury treatment costs for a maximum of 3 years from the occurrence of the injury.
Illnesses and injuries that have begun before a journey are not covered. If an illness that has already occurred before the journey worsens unexpectedly during the journey, only the first aid treatment provided at the destination will be reimbursed for a maximum of one week.
Travel insurance also covers the costs of cancellation and interruption of a journey, as well as costs caused by missed journeys. Persons are entitled to compensation for interruption of their journey, for example, due to hospitalisation because of travel illness. However, the travel insurance doesn`t cover luggage.
The cancellation and interruption of a journey and a missed journey must be caused by compelling reasons listed in the insurance terms and conditions.
The union membership card serves as proof of travel insurance. If needed, a travel insurance certificate can also be obtained from If. If you need a visa certificate for travel insurance, you can obtain one by calling If's customer service.
Organisation insurance covers members in the union’s organisational tasks and events. Retired members are also covered by organisation insurance.
