Why to join in?The activities of trade unions, just like PAU, concentrate on the workplaces where the terms of employment agreed upon between the Union and the employer are applied in practice. At the workplace, the Union is visible mainly through the shop stewards who assist the employees and see to it that the collective agreements and other issues are in order and remain so. The shop steward represents the workers at local negotiations. An employment relationship involves a wide range of rights and obligations. Shop stewards and trade unions offer assistance and consultation to the members, provide information on sick pay, etc., or what to do if your employer declares that your employment is terminated today. If the dispute cannot be settled by negotiations, the Union will take the case to court.
